Life on Purpose

Over the last several years, I have spent quite a bit of time thinking about purpose. As I attended some large meetings and walked through a few busy airports lately, I could not help but think about all of the people I was seeing. Are they living a life of purpose? Or, as a client of mine appropriately worded it: Are they thriving, or are they just surviving?

Merriam Webster defines purpose as “the aim or goal of a person: what a person is trying to do or become.” This definition denotes direction and intentionality. Living a life of purpose does not happen by accident. It takes work. Yes, work. But, the best news about living a life of purpose is what it brings: satisfaction and fulfillment.

Prior to living my life of purpose, I felt like I was just surviving…floating aimlessly doing what others expected of me, or what made a good living. Yes, I was successful in my job and with my relationships, but I never quite reached a place of fulfillment.  Something was off.  Something was missing. I was not thriving. It was not until I truly found God’s purpose for my life did I understand fulfillment. I finally understood what people meant when they said “I was made for this!”

As a Paterson LifePlan Facilitator, the most important question I help my clients answer is “Why do I exist?”  The answer to this question helps drive my client’s future. It provides direction and focus in every area of life. It creates action steps to help them live a life of purpose and, in turn, satisfaction and fulfillment.

Are you living a life of purpose? Are you thriving? Please don’t spend one more day just surviving. I long to see you thrive. I long to see you living the life you were meant to live. It is what I was made for.
